Do I need a referral from my family physician to see a podiatrist?

Although many patients are referred by physicians, it is not necessary to have a referral. When patients are referred, a helpful note is sent to the physician.

What is the typical cost of a podiatric office visit?

As of February 2024, the basic cost of an office visit is $60.00. While our office does not do direct billing, patients will receive a receipt sufficient for submitting to their insurance company, or for tax purposes.

A $20.00 booking fee may be charged for new patients. This will be credited as part of the visit fee for the first appointment.

How are podiatrists regulated in Alberta?

The College of Podiatric Physicians of Alberta regulates podiatric physicians under the Health Professions Act. The College has Standards of Practice and a Code of Ethics. The website is www.albertapodiatry.com

  • Toenail problems
  • Foot pain
  • Diabetic and/or senior foot care
  • Foot pain
  • Sports-related injuries

Does this office provide housecalls?

Home visits are considered for housebound, frail, or disabled patients. There is additional cost.

How much time does a first appointment take?

The direction of the discussion and examination depends on the patient's chief complaint, but our aim is to be thorough and conscientious. For instance, a heel problem appointment will often include a postural biomechanical assessment as well as evaluation of footwear.

A blister or corn on the fifth toe will require consideration of vascular, neurologic, orthopedic and footwear causes.

A first visit often takes 30 or 40 minutes.
